The UCPS Mobile Book Bus

Beginning in mid-June, the UCPS Mobile Book Bus will make dozens of stops at centralized locations throughout the county. With the help of UCPS volunteers and media coordinators, elementary-aged children will have the opportunity to board the retrofitted bus and pick out an age-appropriate book at no cost to their families – a move that will ultimately help to improve their literacy skills and ensure all students have access to books throughout the summer.

Free, unlimited workouts for teens between 15 and 18 years old as part of the Planet Fitness Teen Summer Challenge. To join, participants must register with any of the nearly 1,700 Planet Fitness locations nationwide. From there, teens may workout as much as they like between May 15 and Sept. 1. Any participant is automatically entered to one of fifty-one $500 scholarships.

AFRICAN DANCE CLASS AT WINCHESTER CENTER, MONROE

In partnership with the Union County Arts Council, staff will be introducing participants to an African cultural experience. Participants will learn about traditional African dances and instruments. Participants will dance to drum beats while wearing traditional African clothing. Come feel the beat and rhythm of traditional African culture.

L.I.T. (LEADERS IN TRAINING) TEEN EVENT SERIES

The L.I.T. program is designed for teens by teens. We have put together an awesome series of activities and events with teens in mind. The L.I.T. program provides fun opportunities for teens to enjoy their community and interact with their peers. All programs have been created for and will be organized by teens.

Silent disco is a unique way of experiencing live music – whether it be a DJ or even a live band. Guests wear wireless headphones and a silent atmosphere instantly transforms into a high energy performance. When the silent disco headphones are on, the sound is crisp and clear anywhere in the venue. Since both, you and the performer(s) are wearing headphones, guests can hear the music exactly how it is intended to be heard in true stereo sound regardless of your position in the audience.

Do you have a couple extra bucks in your pocket? Do you want to learn how to keep that money in your pocket and even make a little more? This program will help teens understand the difference between wants and needs and will teach them the tools needed to create a budget.

Kids will be responsible for putting together a menu and preparing a meal of their choice for their peers. This program will teach kids ways to budget their money as well as how to cook a healthy meal.
