Thrive! Union is hosting a Community Resource Fair on Thursday, August 24th, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Union County Human Services Agency, 2330 Concord Avenue, Monroe, NC 28110.

With the official start of summer here, Union County Human Services would like to take a moment to provide some tips on how to stay safe while enjoying the warmer weather and longer days. According to the CDC, over 4,000 fatal unintentional drownings take place annually.
Taking swimming lessons can help prevent accidental drownings and save lives!
Underneath is a list of local organizations that provide swim lessons to Union County residents. Other neighboring organizations may provide these services as well. The color swimsuit that children wear can also help prevent accidental drownings. Wearing bright colors, such as pink, orange, and red, that are visible through the water can help draw attention to anyone that may be drowning. Remember, only swim in pools, ponds, & lakes with lifeguards on duty. See the fliers for more information.

If you missed the Senior Expo on May 4th, most of the resources showcased can be found on the Council on Aging’s Resource Guide. I’ll be adding some of the updates I gathered there to the appropriate places on Phils List when I have time, but in the meantime, here are some things I picked up:
Atrium Health Women’s Care mobile unit provides a range of women’s care services in a convenient, warm, welcoming environment. The mobile unit will be located at the WOW Supermarket – Monroe (1230 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe) every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month from 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Services available include cervical cancer, UTI and STI screenings, contraceptives, and postpartum and first-time prenatal visits. Walk-ins welcome, but appointments are recommended. See flyer for more information.
To schedule an appointment call 704-468-0137.
Please share with anyone you know in need of pre-natal care and help us to improve maternal health outcomes!

Dear Community Partners,
I have been remiss in updating the blog and sending out emails. It’s easier for me to simply share to Facebook while I’m browsing. But I will try to find time to update the blog more frequently, especially if readers let me know that that method is preferred to following the Facebook page. Events are listed on our Facebook Page at this link.
